Mission
The Department of Mathematics and Sciences at Anderson University was formed to provide high quality academic training for students in the areas of mathematics, the natural, and behavioral sciences offered by the University.
The mission of the college is based upon the following perceived student needs:
First, the college believes that students receiving a liberal arts education should comprehend and appreciate the roles that mathematics and the sciences have played, and will continue to play, in human intellectual, moral, spiritual, and social development.
Second, the college believes that educated persons must be skilled in mathematical reasoning, logical thinking, problem-solving, computation, and a working knowledge of the scientific method. They should also have the ability to communicate these skills.
Third, the college believes students of mathematics, and the sciences should receive discipline-specific information that will enable them to pursue further education or obtain meaningful employment.
Therefore, the mission of the college is to offer courses, activities, and advising in the areas of mathematics, the natural, and behavioral sciences to insure that students reach their academic potential while fulfilling these needs.
