Teacher candidates must meet the following requirements prior to admittance into the Teacher Education Program:
- Minimum scores mandated by the South Carolina State Board of Education on the Pre-Profession Skills Text (Praxis l) in reading, mathematics, and writing;
- (NOTE: Praxis I must be passed prior to Teaching Audition Date of semester entering student teaching.)
- Credit for 60 semester hours with a cumulative 2.5 GPA;
- A grade of “C” or higher in ENG 101, ENG 102, SPE 102, EDU 111, EDU 195, and EDU 295. MAT 208 and MAT 209 are not required for admission to the Teacher Education Program but a “C” or better is required for these courses;
- Must read the SC CODE of Conduct required of South Carolina educators for initial Certification;
- Demonstration of ethical and professionally responsible behavior (based on Code of Ethics and Conceptual Framework for Teaching Education Program and evaluations by field experience supervisors including cooperating teachers);
- Submission, after passing Praxis I, and passing score by two readers of a professional pre-service teacher e Portfolio. The e Portfolio will be started by students during EDU 111 and will continue through program admission and graduation.
- Two recommendations from professional education faculty members (dispositions related to the Conceptual Framework;
- One recommendation from a general education professor (dispositions related to the Conceptual Framework;
- Successful teaching audition with the Teacher Education Committee panel members; and
- Approval of admission by Teacher Education Committee.
