The selection of cooperating districts and schools for field experiences is based on the joint responsibility of the College and school district administrator and is channeled through the Coordinator of Field Experiences. The college makes every effort to place students with cooperating teachers who understand and are willing to participate in the College’s Teacher Education Program. These teachers are recommended by their school administrators and are qualified for this service. In order to promote quality experiences, Anderson College enlists schools that provide positive experiences in a professional setting.
The responsibilities of the cooperating districts and schools include the following:
- Selecting teachers to participate in training and orientation sessions as needed or requested which will be conducted by the Coordinator of Field Experiences.
- Providing an orientation for the student--outlining schedules, policies, procedures, curriculum and other related matters connected to the operation of the classroom. A field experience folder will be taken to the teacher on the student on the first day, outlining expectations and duties required by Anderson College.
- Reviewing Anderson College’s expectations and the participating school’s expectations of teacher candidates; assisting candidates in planning appropriate activities related to the role of a teacher; supervising students’ classroom work.
- Providing evaluation of teacher candidates, as well as appropriate feedback and guidance to students; keeping the college supervisor informed of student’s problems and progress, and
- Evaluating the field experience program.
