MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT DIVISION HEAD

The Division of Education and Kinesiology is a vibrant, growing academic unit that seeks to find ways to let students, faculty, and staff know that they are appreciated. The academic offerings of the division provide rigorous course work and applications in the real world environments in a way that graduates will be well-prepared to step into the work force upon degree completion. The program accountability within the division is excellent. The performance levels of students are documented throughout the program so that division faculty and administration can make sure that the highest of professional standards are met by each graduate. Beginning in the fall semester of 2005-2006, the division is tracking program performance levels of all teacher education students with the use of a web-based assessment product called Chalk and Wire. This will enable students to submit critical assignments on line so that once the faculty evaluate the work of the students, the division will automatically have a way of telling how well all teacher education students are doing in relation to national standards. It will also enable the teacher education students to compile an electronic portfolio of required assignments and teaching performance evaluations that will make them more marketable to prospective employers by showing evidence of their performance during their teacher preparation. In addition to this new program accountability process, the division is proud to say that graduates are in demand by prospective employers, particularly from area school districts. The bottom line for parents and prospective students is that the caring nature of the faculty, the relevant course work accompanied with multiple hands-on opportunities sets Anderson apart from other institutions. The personal touch of the faculty at Anderson makes this a special place to be.
