ACCEL Financial Aid & Cost
Thanks for you interest in the Evening (ACCEL) Program at Anderson University. ACCEL students are eligible to receive federal and state funds. For consideration of these funds, complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov by May 1st of each year. All ACCEL students receive a tuition discount, which makes them ineligible for institutional scholarships.
Federal Funds available to ACCEL Students:
FEDERAL PELL GRANT: A federally funded grant based on need determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Awards are based on the amount of hours the student enrolls. Maximum award for year is $4050.
FEDERAL SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANT (FSEOG): A federally funded source of gift aid awarded to students with the most need. Funding is very limited and the Financial Aid Office makes award selections. Maximum award for year is $1000.
FEDERAL PERKINS LOAN: A federally funded program that is offered to students who demonstrate great need. Students must have at least 2.0 cumulative GPA. Since funding is limited, not all qualified students can be offered this loan. Repayment (at least $40 per month) and interest (at 5%) are deferred until 9 months after the student ceases to be enrolled on at least a half-time basis at any institution. Maximum award is $4000 per year.
FEDERAL STAFFORD LOAN: There are two types of Federal Loans Subsidized and Unsubsidized. The government pays the interest on Subsidized Loans because they are need based. Unsubsidized loans accrue interest from the point of disbursement. We encourage our students to pay the interest while they are in school. There are no penalties for payments on your loan early. Repayment and interest begin six months after the student ceases to be enrolled, at a fixed rate 6.8%. All students who enroll at least half-time (6 hours) and are not currently in default on another student loan qualify, regardless of their credit. Maximum amounts are determined by grade level. Amounts can range from $2625 to $10,500 per year.
State Funds available to ACCEL Students:
PALMETTO LIFE SCHOLARSHIP: Eligible South Carolina residents must have two of the three: a 3.0 grade point average (State Uniform Grading Scale), 1100 SAT or 24 ACT composite score, or top 30% of high school class in order to receive this scholarship. Students can gain eligibility at Anderson University with an average of 30 hours per academic year (Fall, Spring, and Summer Terms) and a 3.0 cumulative (Collegiate) GPA. To maintain eligibility, an Anderson University student must maintain a 3.0 (Collegiate) GPA and an average of 30 earned hours per academic year (Fall, Spring, and Summer Terms). Current amount is $5000 per year.
HOPE SCHOLARSHIP: Awarded to South Carolina residents who are true freshman students enrolled full time and have a 3.0 GPA, but do not meet the other criteria mentioned above for the LIFE Scholarship. This is freshman year award only. Current amount for the year is $2650.
STATE TUITION GRANT: Funds are awarded to eligible South Carolina residents who attend full-time. The State Grant agency determines eligibility through the Free Application for Federal student Aid (FAFSA) and assumes that applicants have met the State Grant requirements for satisfactory academic progress. Returning students must have earned 24 credit hours during their last year of full time enrollment or 80% of all previous part-time hours attempted. The Federal Processor must receive the FAFSA by June 30th of each year to be considered for the State Grant. Maximum amount per year is $1350.
