All steps may not be necessary for some students.  If you have questions about a particular item on the checklist, please contact the Financial Aid Planning Office.
   
Complete the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Priority filing deadline for the FAFSA form at AU is March 1st .
Complete your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov

Check your student Aid Report for accuracy
Your SAR is valid if you have an EFC#, located on the right side of the first page. If you do not have an EFC #, please read all instructions carefully and correct. If you have a statement on your SAR such as. “Your application has been selected for a process called for verification.” Please contact our office to complete this important step.

Return your award letter
Promptly return your signed award letter for acceptance of the aid you have been offered. Any revisions on the original award letter will be notified to you through your ac.edu email account.  You can also check your award anytime through our SIS.

Complete the State Certification Form
South Carolina residents must complete the State Certification form for purposes of eligibility for any state aid programs.  This is found on the back of the award letter.

Entrance Counseling
All first time Stafford borrowers must complete entrance counseling at www.mapping-your-future.org

Complete Promissory Note(s)
If you are a first time Stafford Loan borrower or a PLUS loan borrower, complete the promissory note for any loans you have been offered and wish to accept. SC residents can complete their Stafford and/or PLUS at www.slc.sc.edu . Out of State students can complete their Stafford or PLUS notes at www.educaid.com.
All Promissory Notes must be completed prior to June 1st.

Satisfy all fees owed to the University
Bills are mailed the first week of July with payment due date of August 1 st .  Before making payment you can check your balance on SIS.  You can pay your balance online by credit card at our SIS.

Report all outside sources of funding
Any outside scholarships that the student receives must be reported to the Financial Aid Planning Office and funds sent to the Business Office in order to insure that it is credited to the student account. If the outside scholarship agency requires a bill sent to them before they can release funds, contact the Financial Aid Planning Office to have this arranged. Outside scholarships are not reflected on your award letter.
