Regular Admissions

Time Magazine and Princeton Review rank Anderson among the state's more selective colleges. Anderson attempts to select those students who show promise of being academically successful. Each applicant's record is examined for evidence reflecting potential for intellectual and social growth, strength of character and seriousness of purpose.

The major factors considered in admission decisions are:

  • Graduation from a high school or submission of proof of having passed a high school equivalency test

  • The high school grade-point average computed on the basis of a 4-point scale

  • The curriculum taken in high school as it relates to the applicant's further educational or career objectives

  • Scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing Program (ACT)

  • References

The College may also choose to examine further any applicant by the use of psychological, achievement or aptitude tests, and a personal interview.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the campus and to talk with an Admissions Counselor.

Types of Admission Available to High School Students

  • Regular Admission is normally granted to students who have an average of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in college prep courses and a minimum SAT score of 1000 or ACT composite of 20. Anderson University also features First Choice, an early admission program.

  • Conditional Admission may be granted an applicant who does not meet one or both of these standards. Conditionally admitted students are required to develop a performance contract with the director of the Academic Services Center and to successfully complete that contract. The course load for conditionally admitted students should not exceed fifteen hours in the first semester of enrollment. Students may be released from conditional status following one semester of enrollment if grades of "C" or better are earned in all courses. Students do not apply for Conditional Admission, but are designated so by the Director of Admissions.

You may apply online, download an application, or request that an application packet be mailed to you.

Anderson University admits qualified students without regard to race, age, color, gender, disability, or national or ethnic origin.

Preparation Guidelines

To help you prepare for college we have listed a brief timeline for high school students to use as a general guide before applying to college.

10th Grade

  • Prepare for the PSAT/SAT/ACT.

  • Get on college mailing lists.

  • Spend the summer after your sophomore year visiting some colleges.

  • Keep a college journal to record facts and impressions of each college you visit.

  • Determine the five qualities you most desire in a college.

11th Grade

  • Take the PSAT, SAT, or ACT.

  • Keep your grades up. Colleges place a heavy emphasis on junior year grades.

  • Meet with admissions counselors when they visit your high school.

  • Visit colleges you are interested in. Request an application packet and ask to be on their mailing list.

  • Attend open houses or preview events.

12th Grade
September through December

  • Take the SAT or ACT again.

  • Schedule your own visit or take advantage of the open houses at colleges where you plan to apply.

  • Fill out applications and send them in. Be sure to follow each school's directions and be aware of their deadline.

January

  • Complete and send FAFSA forms. These forms must be mailed BEFORE June 30 to qualify for state aid. However, we recommend an earlier date of April 15.

February through May

  • If you have been accepted at more than one school, you should notify ALL of the colleges of your decision.

  • Let your college know you've chosen them. You will need to send in the reply form with a monetary deposit, and your signed financial aid award letter.
