We are currently in the process of hiring a Instructional Services Librarian.

The newest and one of the finest university libraries in the South welcomes students on the Anderson University campus. While the construction of various aspects of the facility continues, the building has been deemed ready for use. The approximately 100,000 volumes the library will hold initially were moved from the Johnston Memorial Library over the holiday break.

The Thrift Library, the culmination of the largest single-phase building project in Anderson University history, is expected to dramatically change the environment on campus with ample high-tech media and study rooms, attractive decor, computer labs, and an upscale cafe which will serve gourmet coffee, desserts and light meals throughout the day.

At approximately 53,000 square feet, Thrift Library is the largest one-phase construction project in the history of the University.  (Rainey Fine Arts Center is slightly larger, but was constructed in two phases.)  It features the following:

  • Bunton Computer Laboratory
  • McClellion Cafe
  • Chapman Multi-Media Center
  • Vandiver Gallery
  • Hopkins Special Collections Room (University Archives)
  • Anderson Independent Mail Curriculum Lab
  • Pracht Seminar Room
  • 10 Student Collaborative Study Rooms
  • Approximately 7,500 square feet of unfinished space for future expansion
  • Rainey Sculpture Fountain (to be installed in spring 2008 – a year from now)
  • Wireless Internet

You also may be interested in a bit of trivia about the new building.  Thrift Library contains:

  • 65,876 feet of electrical wire or 12.5 miles
  • A cupola weighing 8,463 pounds or 4.2 tons
  • 131,840 bricks
  • 628,000 pounds of steel or 314 tons
  • 81,875 pounds of reinforcing steel in the concrete or 40.9 tons
  • 2,285 yards of concrete (That’s a 4 foot wide sidewalk 8.8 miles long or 154.8 football fields long.)
