Online Campus FAQ's




1. What degree programs are offered online?

Currently, the only program available online is the Bachelor of Criminal Justice. It is a "degree completion" program, which means that students must transfer in lower division courses. At present, the plan is to offer a total of 60 semester hours online. Most of these will be upper division courses, plus some lower division courses to complement what students have already had. See /evening/index.html, the click on the "Criminal Justice," which is listed in the red block of menu items on the right side of the page. This gives the entire curriculum for the Bachelor of Criminal Justice program.

2. How do I apply?

To apply for admission, go to http://www.applyweb.com/apply/andaccel/ for the application menu.

3. What courses are required for graduation?

To see the courses required for graduation, go to /evening/index.html. In the red block on the right of the screen is a listing of menu items. Click on “Criminal Justice.”

5. Do I have to take other courses before taking courses through Anderson University?

The Bachelor of Criminal Justice program requires 123 semester hours for graduation. Students admitted to the program should transfer in 33 semester hours of criminal justice courses from another college. Students transferring in 27-32 semester hours of criminal justice courses may substitute sociology, psychology, or political science courses to get to the total of 33 semester hours. These sociology, psychology, or political science courses cannot include courses that otherwise are required in the program.

Some courses required in the Criminal Justice program will not be offered online by Anderson College in the foreseeable future. Therefore, the three-semester-hour courses listed below must be taken on-site at Anderson University or on-site or online through another college or university. It is important to know that Anderson University accepts a maximum of 64 semester hours from a college where the associate’s degree is the highest degree conferred. In addition, one must complete a minimum of 36 semester hours at Anderson University, including at least 15 semester hours of upper-division credit in the major. Thirty of the 36 must be the last hours completed in the degree program. The courses required in CRJ that we will not offer online in the foreseeable future are:

  • English Composition I and II
  • Public Speaking
  • Introduction to Sociology
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • American National Government
  • Introduction to Information Processing Systems (Note: This course teaches the Microsoft Office packages of Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel.)
  • Humanities/Fine Arts requirement
  • Two electives

6. How will I know what courses to take?

An academic advisor will assist in planning your courses.

7. How do I register for classes?

After your advisor has recommended which courses you should take in a specific term, the advisor will give you a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Go to the Student Information System (SIS) at https://www.collegeregister.com/7815/index.html. Choose the appropriate term. Enter your Student Identification Number and PIN and follow the directions.

8. Will I have an advisor?

Yes. An academic advisor will be assigned to you when you receive your acceptance letter.

9. How do I get books?

10. Will I qualify for financial aid?

Financial Aid is any form of money for your college education that comes from resources other than yourself. Grants are based on financial need and do not have to be repaid. Loans are also considered financial aid even though you have to pay back the loan. Federal need based aid and the subsidized federal stafford loan is awarded based on financial need as defined by th Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The federal stafford loan is a low interest loan for students who need assistance with college costs. Almost all applicants are eligible for some type of loan assistance, regardless of income or creditworthiness. You must be enrolled at least half time and degree seeking in order to receive the federal stafford loan.

You should submit your FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 each year at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The priority deadline for need-based aid is March 1st of each year. If you have any questions, please contact the financial aid office at 864-231-2070.

11. What is the course schedule?

12. Can I earn a bachelor's degree?

Yes. By successfully completing the courses required in Anderson University’s Criminal Justice program (see FAQ # 3 above), you will be eligible to receive a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

13. My employer offers tuition reimbursement. How do you handle that?

14. Is Anderson University accredited?

Yes. Anderson University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097, Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award baccalaureate degrees (Level II).

15. How do these online classes work?

You will be required to complete an online training session to assist you in the mechanics of taking an online course. Your instructor will contact you about the time for online "chats."

16. What is Anderson University's policy on transfer of credit?

Credit is given for transferable courses successfully completed (C grade or higher) at a regionally accredited college or university. Credits earned at non-accredited institutions, non=college parallel programs at technical colleges, and non=traditional programs are evaluated for transfer on a case-by-case basis. All courses accepted for transfer will be entered on the academic transcript. Transfer grades work will not be computed in the grade point average. A maximum of 64 semester hours will be accepted toward a bachelor's degree in transfer from an institution that awards only the associate degree. Substitution of transfer courses for courses required in degree programs at Anderson University will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Maximum flexibility will be exhibited in determining the appropriateness of course substituiton. Transcripts of transfer students will be evaluated as soon as possible after acceptance, and your will receive the results of the evaluation.

17. If I have a question about the results of the evaluation of my previous college transcript(s), what do I do?

Contact your advisor. You will receive via email, the name of your advisor, along with appropriate contact information.

18. How do I pay tuition?

Mail payments to University Central, 316 Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621. For credit card payments, call 864-231-2130 or pay online at www.andersonuniversity.edu by using the SIS link located under "Current Students:"

19. How do I apply for graduation?

See the registrar’s web page, www.ac.edu/academics/registrar.htm. Look for “Forms, etc. Available in the Registrar Office.” The application for graduation is listed under this heading.

20. Will all my courses be offered online, or can I take all my class online?

Anderson University Bachelor of Criminal Justice Program is designed as a "degree completion" program. That means students entering the program are expected to already earned college credit.
