 Joe Miller - Head Coach The 2009 season will be Miller’s 19th season at Anderson and 13th as head coach of the Trojans.
Miller was hired as assistant baseball coach at Anderson in June, 1990. A native of Newberry, S.C., Miller was a member of the 1985 Upstate Championship baseball team at Newberry High School.
Miller attended Anderson College when it was a junior college and was captain of the baseball team in '86 and '87. In '87, he was selected as an infielder for the All-Region X team.
After graduating from Anderson, Miller played baseball at Newberry College in '88 and '89 and was a member of the Indians' District VI Championship team in '89. Also in '89, Miller was named to the NAIA Academic All-American team.
Following his playing career, Miller earned his masters degree in physical education from Gardner Webb University.
Miller served as an assistant coach under former Anderson athletic director Bobby Beville from '90 to '93. In '94, Miller was named associate head coach.
In '96 when Beville was named the athletic director at Anderson, Miller was elevated to the position of head baseball coach. Miller has more than 300 victories during his career at Anderson.
Miller is the son of the late Clyde Miller who collected more than 800 victories as a college baseball coach. Joe and his wife Laurie live in Anderson and have two sons, Tyler and Jake.

A native of Barnwell, S.C., Rutland played for Anderson from 2000 to 2003. During his career with the Trojans, he had a career record of 18-12. In '02, Rutland was 9-2 with an ERA of 2.08 and was selected to the All-CVAC second team. Rutland was a Dean's List student in '02-03 and a finalist for the CVAC's Murphy Osborne Award in '03.
After graduating from Anderson with a B.S. degree in kinesiology with a concentration is physical education, Rutland started his career at Hillcrest High School in Fountain Inn, S.C., as head junior varsity baseball coach. From Hillcrest, he moved to Williston-Elko High School in Williston, S.C., where he served one year as head varsity baseball coach and taught physical education.
Rutland is certified through the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association as a Personal Trainer; through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist, and has a M.S. in Exercise Science and Health Promotion-Concentration in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention from the California University of Pennsylvania.
Rutland's wife Shelli also is an Anderson graduate.
