11/04/2009 - Kleinberg Named Conference Player of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. -- After helping lead the Trojans to three wins last week, freshman Jessica Kleinberg has been named Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

Kleinberg tallied five points to boost AU to a perfect 3-0 record, including two conference wins, on the week and a No. 3 seed in this week’s conference tournament. She assisted on the equalizer in the 84th minute and scored the game-winning goal with less than two minutes remaining in the Trojans' home win past North Greenville last Monday.

The Hamilton, Ohio native followed up that performance two days later by posting the lone score of the game in Anderson's 1-0 road win past Limestone. Kleinberg has helped the Trojans to their most conference wins in school history and also the longest win streak (eight) on record.

On the season, Kleinberg leads the team with 22 points on the strength of a team-high nine goals, including four game-winners, and is tied for second with four assists. She also currently boasts a .579 shots on goal percentage.

“Jess has been so dangerous all season and is stepping up to show just how big an impact player she truly is,” said Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak. “It is still surprising to me that she has showed so much composure and is only a freshman.”

This marks the second time this season the forward has earned the honor and the fourth time that a Trojan women’s soccer player has been named conference Player of the Week this season. Fellow freshmen Carrie Settle and Ashley Cotton also claimed the accolade earlier in the year.

Anderson (11-8) defeated sixth-seeded Erskine, 1-0, last night at the AU Soccer Field and will play host to No. 7 seed Limestone in the conference tournament semifinals on Thursday at 7 p.m.
