11/23/2009 - Lancaster Earns Academic All-America HonorsANDERSON, S.C. -- Junior outside hitter Jamie Lancaster has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Volleyball Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A Conference Carolinas first-team selection and also honored as the conference Player of the Week three times, Lancaster helped lead Anderson to a 21-12 record as a junior. A kinesiology major with a 4.0 G.P.A., she was also named to the league’s all-tournament team as well as being named to the Wingate Classis All-Tournament team.
A native of Fountain Inn, S.C., Lancaster was named one of the top two independent college students in the state of South Carolina earlier this semester. She led the conference and ranked eighth nationally in kills per set (4.35), while recording match highs 21 times. She recorded 18 double-doubles and posted a 25-match streak of double-figure kills, while notching an attack percentage of .322 over the final 11 contests.
To be eligible for the national team, a student athlete had to have been selected to its District’s first team. Initial nomination criteria at the District level includes being a varsity starter or key reserve, maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, reaching sophomore athletic and academic standing at her current institution and be nominated by their sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, COSIDA has bestowed Academic All America honors on more than 14,000 student athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
