CALABASH, N.C. -- The Anderson women's golf team is in ninth place following the first day of the Lenoir-Rhyne Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate Monday afternoon at the Par-72 5,802-yard Meadowland Course.

Sophie Dembroski paced the Trojans with a solid eight-over 80 (17th) during the wet opening day and sits just five strokes off the pace set by UNC-Pembroke’s Katja Dammann.

AU’s Hayley Parks posted a first-round 84 to sit alone in 31st, while sophomore Anna Jenks finished the day at 16-over par, putting her in a share of 43rd place.

Laura Buyers carded an opening-round 94 to gain a share of 58th and sophomore Kalyn Johnson shot 95 and sits in a tie for 61st heading into the final round Tuesday afternoon.

AU’s team score of 346 puts the Trojans five strokes ahead of Armstrong Atlantic and

just five strokes behind eighth-place Catawba. Lenoir-Rhyne, which claimed the AU Invitational title in September, sits in the seventh spot with a team score of 331.

The teams are back on the course for final-round action Tuesday morning.
