03/01/2005 - Erskine Gets Past Anderson, 4-1DUE WEST, S.C. -- Three Erskine pitchers combined for a six-hitter and Shelton Cisson drove in two runs to lead Erskine College to a 4-1 victory over Anderson College in a non-conference game between two CVAC members Tuesday afternoon.
Erskine scored single runs in the first and second to take a 2-0 lead. Robbie Knapp had a sacrifice fly in the first to bring home Antonio Sabatini, who opened the game with a single. The run in the second inning came on a double by Ben Blumenthal and an error.
Anderson scored its lone run in the fourth on a leadoff single by Jonathan Pitts, a single by Cody Nye, and a fielder's choice.
Erskine answered in the home half of the fourth. Blumenthal was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a single by Brent Mahaffey, and scored on a ground out.
Erskine scored its final run in the seventh when Cisson reached on an error, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a single by J.J. Newman.
Erskine starter Matt Timms allowed six hits and struck out five in seven innings. Jon Merrell and Michael Maus both pitched one perfect inning apiece to finish up the game.
Nate Miller went the distance for the Trojans. He allowed six hits and struck out two in eight innings.
The loss drops Anderson to 6-11.
